Catterick, Southwell (a.w.) and Yarmouth

The flat season is drawing to a close, but there are still 3 meetings today, on turf at Catterick and Yarmouth, and on the all-weather at Southwell. The best racing, rather surprisingly, is at Yarmouth, where 5 of the 8 races are for 2yo´s. Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore can combine to win two of them, with Longliner at 14.10 CET and with London Stripe half an hour later. With Godolphin continuing to fire on all fronts (3 more winners yesterday), Landower, top-weight in th 2yo handicap at 1.10 and debutant Lion Mountain in the mile maiden at 16.10, both with Frankie Dettori aboard, must be given every chance.

Frankie is very keen to complete his century before flying to Australia at the weekend to ride Kirklees in the Melbourne Cup and jhas aothjer winning chance on Jeremy Nosda´s Racing Hero, who was an easy all-the-way winner at Doncaster on Saturday and can now defy a penaölty and top-weight to take the 3yo handicap over 10 furlongs at 17.10. Main interest at Catterick where 7 of the 8 races are large-field handicaps, is the fight between Freddie Tylicki and David Probert for the apprentice title. Freddie has a slight lead and seems to have more promising rides today, in particular Toto Skyllachy at 16.00 and Sergeant Pink half an hour later, both for trainer Steve Gollings. Grudge(Ollie Pears/ Franny Norton), unlucky a couple of times this season, looks a solid each-way bet in the final 5 furlongs handicap at 17.30. Best race on a poor card at Southwell in the 5 furlongs conditions race at 15.50. Strike up the Band (David and Adrian Nicholls) was far from disgraced last time i n the Group One Abbaye and this is obviously much easier. Turn on the Style (John Balding/ Paul Mulrennan) has been off since February but had good all-weather form last winter, looks the danger, but don´t overlook CD specialist Pawan (Ann Stokell) who might be placed at a big price
