rest of Doncaster

the rest of the Doncaster card is also very strong, and it kicks off with the Group Two Champagne Stakes for 2yo´s over 7 furlongs at 14.55 CET. This is always won by a top performer and the 7 runners include some major hopes for next season. Aidan O´Brien saddles three of them, with stable jockey Johnny Murtagh partnering Viscount Nelson, but he faces strong opposition, notably from Poet´s Voice (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori), Silver Grecian (John Ryan/ Michael Hills) and Layali al Andalus (Mark Johnston/ Joe Fanning). The Park Stakes over 7 furlongs at 16.35 is also Group Two and is a puzzle, with question marks over most of the contestants. Jeremy Noseda saddles Arabian Gleam (Murtagh), who last ran down the field at Royal Ascot, and Himalya (Dettori), who has not run since last year´s Royal Ascot, while Hughie Morrison runs Stimulation (Darryll Holland), who is top-rated but has also been off the track for a year. Ouqba (Barry and Richard Hills) won the Jersey Stakes but has disappinted since, so despite misgivings we choose Arabian Gleam, who has won this race for the past two years. The big betting race at Doncaster is the Portland Handicap over 5 1/2 furlongs at 15.25 which has 22 runners and is very difficult to decipher, especially as most of these have met before, notably in the Great St. Wilfrid at Ripon, won by today´s top-weight Markab (Henry Candy/ Pat Cosgrave) or in a similar race at York; on that occasion Intrepid Jack (Hughie Morrison/ Jimmy Fortune) and we fancy he could run well today at a decent price, though there are dangers galore.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Poet`S Voice - Silver Grecian - Viscount Nelson
2. Race: Markab - Jaconet - Pavershooz
3. Race: Kite Wood - Changingoftheguard - Father Time
4. Race: Stimulation - Arabian Gleam - Himalya
5. Race: Alazeyab - We`Ll Come - Espiritu
6. Race: Azizi - Start Right - Whippers Love
7. Race: Falcon Rock - Precision Break - Seeking The Buck
