Doncaster St. Leger meeting: day one

The four-day Doncaster St. Leger meeting starts today, when the main feature is the listed Scarborough Stakes over 5 furlongs at 16.45 CET. This is one if the rare races when 2yo´s run against their elders, but the only juvenile in the field Above Limits (Tom Dascombe/ Cathy Gannon), despite a hefty weight allowance, does not look good enough.

We expect to see a "dandy"result here, with Dandy Man (Saeed bin Suroor) and Inxile (Dandy and Adrian Nicholls) fighting it out, but Strike the Deal (Jeremy Noseda/ Kieren Fallon) looks dangerous, as do Brian Smart´s two runners Moorhouse Lad (Jim Crowley) and Captain Gerrard (Tom Eaves), both down the field in the Nunthorpe but facing lesser opposition here. Elsewhere on the card, Twice Over (Henry Cecil/ Tom Queally) should take the conditions race over 10 furlongs at 16.10; he had no chance last time out in the Eclipse, but that was one of the best races of the year. The Queen´s Broad Cairn (Roger Charlton/ Steve Drowne) is still improving and has won 3 of his last 5 races; he has a good chance in the 3yo handicap over 7 furlongs at 17.20, where lightly-raced Russian Jar (Michael Jarvis/ William Buick) looks the main threat.

Betting forecast:
1. Race: Ransom Note - Pleasant Day - Brick Red
2. Race: Angel`S Pursuit - Bond Fastrac - Transvaal Sky
3. Race: Twice Over - Serva Jugum - Chock A Block
4. Race: Moorhouse Lad - Inxile - Strike The Deal
5. Race: Russian Jar - Broad Cairn - Wildcat Wizard
6. Race: Haajes - Le Toreador - Ocean Blaze
7. Race: The Tatling - Feelin Foxy - Invincible Lad
