Haydock, Newbury and Nottingham

The main feature this afternoon in the U.K. is the listed race for 2yo´s over 6 furlongs at 16.10 CET at Newbury, but Haydock´s 2yo maiden at 15.20 should provide a valuable clue here. Should Cansili Star (Michael Jarvis/ Philip Robinson) win this - which sems very possible- then it would be an obvious pointer to John Gosden´s Showcasing (Ryan Moore) at Newbury, as that one beat Cansili Star very easily last time at Yarmouth. Clearly the listed race represents a steep step up in class, and Showcasing faces some useful opposition, notably Duplicity (Richard Hannon/ Richard Hughes) and Walkingonthemoon (Tom Dascombe/ Richard Kingscote), runner-up at Epsom on Derby Day, but he could be good enough. Also at Newbury Ashram (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori) can continue Godolphin´s good recent run by winning the 7 furlongs conditions race for 3yo´s at 17.55; he is best on ratings here and ran a good race last time when third of 16 in a Royal Ascot Group Three. At Nottingham the m ost interesting event is the 10 furlongs race for 3yo maiden fillies at 18.05. There are two well-bred newcomers here from the Godolphin and Cecil stables, but it will be a surprise of either are good enough to defeat Phillipina (Sir Michael Stoute/ Louis-Philippe Beuzelin), who was 6th in the Oaks last time out, form which gives her an outstandng chance here.
