Classic news

Penny´s Gift, trained in England by Richard Hannon, and Entre deux Eaux, trained in France by Robert Collet, are likely foreign challengers for Sunday´s German 1,000 Guineas at Düsseldorf. Richard Hughes and Jean-Pierre Guillambert respectively have been booked to ride.

Meanwhile Irish trainer Aidan O´Brien has announced provisional riding plans for his 6 runners in Saturday´s Derby at Epsom. Stabl jocky Johnny Murtagh will partner Rip Van Winkle, 4th in the 2,000 Guineas last time, while Seamus Heffernan rides Fame and Glory, who had looked on paper to be the stable´s best chance. Although O´Brien normally books Irish jockeys to partner his horses, it is significant that he has chosen English champion Ryan Moore to ride Dante winner Black Bear Island. The reaction of the bookies has been to shorten Rip Van Winkle and Black Bear Island, lengthen Fame and Glory, and they now make John Oxx´ Sea the Stars a narrow favourite. However for us Fame and Glory remains the logical choice.
