Rest of Newmarket

The most valuable race today at Newmarket is the 400,000 Tattersalls Timeform Trophy for 3yos bought at auction at Tattersalls over 10 furlongs at 16.00 CET. With a huge pot, there is a strong field with quite possibly some Derby runners in the field. Richard Hannon has an excellent record in these sales races, and possibly Weald Park (Ric hard Hughes) is his best chance. Rockhampton (Aidan O´Brien/ Johnny Murtagh) is an interesting Irish runner, and while his stable is not yet in form, this one has already won easily this year, while Liberation (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori) is the first British starter of 2009 for Godolphin. If his running at Nad al Sheba is any guide, he must go close here, while Popmurphy (Karl Burke/ Jim Crowley) could go well at a big price.

The Feilden Stakes over 9 furlongs at 17.45 has only 5 runners, but could also provide some classic clues. Henry Cecil has a good record here and his On Our Way (Tom Queally) is a decent prospect; he has Drumbeat (O´Brien/ Murtagh) and the unbeaten Redwood (Barry and Michal Hills) to beat. The listed European Free Handicap over 7 furlongs at 16.35 is no longer such a good race as used to be the case. Art Connoisseur (Michael Bell/ Jamie Spencer) has top-weight and on the basis of his Royal Ascot win looks better class than the opposition, though the distance may be his maximum. All 10 runners in this event are seasonal debutants, which makes the race difficult to sum up, but Courageous (Brian Smart/ Richard Mullen) and Awinnersgame (Jeremy Noseda/ Murtagh) look the major threats.
