Classic trials at Maisons-Laffitte

The most important French classic trials of the season so far take place today at Maisons-Laffitte, the Prix Djebel for colts at 15.05 and the Prix Imprudence for fillies half an hour later, both over 1400 metres. Naaqoos (Freddie Head/ Davy Bonilla) was the top-rated French juvenile in 2008 following his smart performance in the Grand Criterium, and on that form should win the Djebel easily - which he needs to do to maintain his position as second favourite for the 2,000 Guineas, his intended target. If there is a danger, it is probably Le Havre (Jean-Claude Rouget/ Christophe Lemaire). Head and Rouget are also the trainers to consider in the Imprudence, but this time Rouget has the favourite in Elusive Wave (Lemaire), winner of her first 3 starts in 2008 and then runner-up in the Boussac. Head´s filly Only Green (Olivier Peslier) has alreeady won this sason, as has Peach Pearl (de Nicolay/ Stephane Pasquier), which could give them a fitness edge, while Stefer (David Samaga/ Dominique Boeuf), a CD specialist, and Entre deux Eaux (Robert Collet/ Ioritz Mendizibal) are others with a chance.
