German runners at Compiegne

Racing at Compiegne today and as usual, plenty of German-trained runners. In the opening tiercé handicap over a mile at 13.50 top-weight Marek (Manfred Weber/ Christophe Soumillon) and Obelix (Erika Mäder/ William Mongil) are the German hopes, but this looks a really tough race. Earl of Fire (Werner Baltromei/ Jerome Lermyte) and Wunderkind (Mario Hofer/ Andreas Helfenbein) run in the 1400 metres conditions race for 4yo´s at 15.20, but again there is some strong opposition. Adelar (Baltromei/ Pierre Fertillet), who was not disgraced in last year´s German Derby, is an interesting contestant in the amateur riders race over 2000 metres at 16.20, while Dunedin Star (Hofer/ Helfenbein) is entered in the claiming race over a mile at 17.20. The German runners all have useful form to their credit, but these fields are much stronger than normally seem at this track.
