All-weather action at Lingfield and Wolverhampton

Two all-weather tracks in action today, but all 15 races are class 5 or 6, so not much quality is on offer, and some of the fields are very small too. The two most interesting events at Lingfield are arguably the maiden races over 6 furlongs at 16.10 CET and over a mile an hour later, but they have only 4 and 5 runners respectively. The former event sees the 4yo Trade Centre( Willie Muir/ Martin Dwyer) attempting to give 19 lbs to the 3yo Dareh (Mark Johnston/ Joe Fanning). Trade Centre made a good debut a week ago and looks certain to win before long, but on this occasion we prefer Dareh, having his first run for Johnston; last season he was 3rd of 12 on all 3 starts for Saeed bin Suroor. Mark Johnston could also supply the winner of the mile race in the shape of the well-bred 4yo Boscage (Fanning), giving his belated racecourse debut in the same Maktoum colours. Onemix (Barry Hills/ Chris Catlin) looks the one to beat. Also at Lingfield, ex-German Artreju (Gary Moore/ Ferg us Sweeney) runs in the 10 furlongs handicap at 18.10. He has been a total disappointment so far in Britain, and is rapidly running out of excuses, but is on such a favourable mark that he can perhaps be given one more chance. At Wolverhampton, Augustus John (Roy Brotherton/ Walter Biddick) is the likely favourite for the 1 3/4 miles amateur riders handicap at 15.50 after finishing placed on his last 7 runs.

However he has never yet won and is racing over a distance beyond his best, so is no good thing today. Another with "seconditis" is Blue Tomato, who runs in the 6 furlongs claimer at 17.50. He has been runner-up on all four 2009 starts, but he does know how to win and has a clear chance here; the obvious danger is Imprimis Tagula (Alan Bailey/ Micky fenton), who landed a gamble last timeat Southwell, but he must give weight to Blue Tomato. The fillies handicap over 6 furlongs at 17.20 is also interesting; top-weight Jaconet (David Barron/ Jamie Spencer) won 3 races last summer, but has been off the track since August. She meets two fillies with decent current form, Leading Edge (Mick Channon/ Tony Culhane) and Moon Crystal (Ed Dunlop/ Ross Atkinson) and it could be quite tight
