Hereford (N.H.) and Southwell (a.w.)

With Sedgefield abandoned, Hereford now stages the only jumps racing in Britain today and most of the top jockeys will be there, notably Tony McCoy and Robert Thornton, who should both be among the winners. The best race is the novice chase over 2 miles 3 furlomgs at 17.10 CET; there are only 5 runners, but all can boast decent form. Oh Crick (Alan King/ Thornton) is unbeaten in two starts here and is clearly to be respected, while Oscar Bay (Jimmy Frost/ Seamus Durack) is arguablöy the best horse in the small fied, but has to give weight away to all the others. McCoy´s mount Soixante (Henrietta Knight) is of interest, but the likeliest winner is Tamadot (Philip Hobbs/ Rhys Flint), an easy winner last time out. Phoudamour (Jonjo O`Neill/ McCoy) and Pterodactyl (Venetia Williams/ Aidan Coleman) both fell last time, but still look contenders for the novice hurdle at 16.10.

David Pipe´s stable is in great form, and he introduces an interesting newcomer in Nice Style (Tom Scudamore) in the opening 4yo maiden hurde at 15.10. He was the best rated of these on the flat and can defeat Black Jacari (King/ "Choc"), who has already been runner-up several times but does not appear to relish a battle. German-bred Figurita (Charlie Mann/ Mr.P. Toole) has agood each-way chance in the mares handicap hurdle at 16.40, the best betting race on the card. Consistent Patlesotho (King/ "Choc") is the one to beat, but Joli Classical (Ron Hodges/ Harry Skelton) could be an interesting long-shot.

At Southwell, the two best races have only 4 runners each, but still look quite tricky. The 6 furlongs handicap for 3yo´s at 16.30 has 3 last-time-out CD winners, and Amngel Song (Sir Mark Prescott/ Stephen Donohoe), who created a positive impression when winning here on her debut, could be the answer. The class 2 handicap over 11 furlongs half an hour later also has 3 last-time-out winners in the field, of whom Robby Bobby (Mark Johnston/ Greg Fairley) could possibly come out on top. But the interesting one here is top-weight Kandidate (Clive Brittain/ Robert Winston), who was a total flop last time. However at his best he is clearly superior to these opponents, and with the stable now in better form, should be given another chance.
