All-weather action at Great Leighs and Southwell

The action this afternoon at Southwell and this evening at Great Leighs pales into insignificance beside the Nad el Sheba meeting, but at least we have some recent form to go on. That said, the most interesting runner at Southwell is Mark Prescott´s Almamia (Stephen Donohoe), who is having her first run for 14 months. She contests the 1 1/2 mile maiden at 16.30 CET. The daughter of Champion Stakes winner Alborada woud win this if anywhere near her best, but the long break gives reason for pause, especially as Prescott´s runners this week have not been really firing. Ibrox (AD Brown/ Jimmy Quinn) and Augustus John (Steve Parr/ John Egan), second and third in a similar race here last week have an obvious fitness advantage. Quick off the Mark (James Given/ Hayley Turner), a narrow winner last time at Wolverhampton, can follow up in the fillies´ mile handicap at 15.30.

Betting forecast:
1.Race: Whiskey Creek - Briery Lane - Mystickhill
2.Race: Jordi Roper - Hurricane Coast - General Tufto
3.Race: Amber Moon - Vanatina - Bahamian Bay
4.Race: Mozayada - Moon Crystal - Quick Off The Mark
5.Race: Lithaam - Ridley Didley - Spoof Master
6.Race: Almamia - Ibrox - Monaadi
7.Race: To Be Or Not To Be - Aegean Pride - Another Genepi

At Great Leighs the opening 6 furlongs handicap at 19.50 is the best betting race. Both Replicator (Pat and Paul Eddery) and Obe Royal (David Evans/ Stephen Donohoe) ran well enough last time to suggest that they can be in the shake-up now. The 5 furlongs handicap at 21.20 lies between top-weight Ivory Silk (Jeremy Gask/ Chris Catlin) and Wotashirtful (Kevin Ryan/ Jamie Spencer).

Betting forecast:
1.Race: Sendreni - Namu - Leading Edge
2.Race: Ice Bellini - Little Carmela - Enthusius
3.Race: Prince Of Medina - Viscount Rossini - Itsawindup
4.Race: Wotashirtfull - Ivory Silk - Fromsong
5.Race: Murfreesboro - Clear Sailing - Bavarica
6.Race: Man Of Gwent - Folio - Rawdon
