All-weather action at Great Leighs and Southwell

La Estrella (Dane O´Neill) has been well placed by trainer Don Cantillon to win 4 races in quick succession, but that run could come to an end in the 1 mile 5 furlongs claiming race at 15.25 CET at Great Leighs, where she is set to concede 12 lbs to Kings Head (Gary Moore/ George Baker) and 16 lbs to Bridgewater Boys (David Evans/ Stephen Donohoe). On official ratings King´s Head should certainly win this, although it does not always work out so neatly. The best race at Great Leighs is the class 3 6 furlongs handicap at 16.25, where all 8 runners have a chance in a very open event. Irish raider Inwood (P. Magnier/ Edward Creighton) ran well enough at Dundalk last time to have claims here off bottom-weight, while top-weight Irish Pearl (Karl Burke/ Declan Carroll) and consistent Beat the Bell (Alan Bailey/ Neil Chalmers) also have prospects.

Thirsk trainer Bryan Smart has his string in great form and might win this with Soopacal (Jim Crowley) and he also has several good chances at Southwell, notably Wing Diva in the maiden race over 1 mile 3 furlongs at 14.20 and Chocolicious in the 3yo seller an hour later, while Transmission, who already run twice this year, has an obvious chance in the mile handicap at 15.50; all three will be ridden by stable jockey Tom Eaves. The 5 furlongs handicap for 3yo´s at 14.50 sees a rematch between La Capriosa (Alan McCabe/ Robert Winston) and Halaak (David Simcock/ Chris Catlin). The former came out out on top when they met here recently over 6 furlongs, but over this shorter trip and with a 6 lbs advantage at the weights, Halaak can take his revenge today.
