Kempton and Leicester

With Carlisle abandoned because of frost, there are only two British meetings today, at Leicester (N.H.) and Kempton (all-weather flat racing). A Leicester, Lake Legend should win the opening novice hurdle over 2 1/2 miles at 13.45 CET after a convincing debut at Huntingdon. There are only 4 runners in the mares novice chase at 14.15 and of these only Fit to Drive (Brendan Powell/ Sam Jones) has form over fences. On hurdling form, Brook no Argument (John Quinn/ Dougre Costello) ought to win, while Charlie Mann´s German-bred Figurita (Dave Crosse) has a stiff task on ratings, but ran well last time. The two top-weights Roznic (Tim Vaughan/ Richard Johnson) and College Ace (Paula Robeson/ Dam Jones), both last-time-out winners, should dominate the 3 mile handicap chase at 15.20, while top-weight Mujamead (Tony Carroll/ Wayne Hutchinson) is the likely favourite for the handicap hurdle at 15.55. He is unbeaten in two starts this CD, but has to give a lot of weight to Or d´Oudaire s (Quoinn/ Costello) and ex-German Snake Charmer (Milton Harris/ Charlie Poste). The 7 races at Kempton are all class 5 or 6 and althugh the fiels are large, they are short on quality- Perhaps the most interesting race is the 7 furlongs handicap that closes the card at 18.15. Front-runner Dawson Creek (Brian Gubby/ Michael Hills) looked a bit unlucky to be caught by Tobar Suil Lady (John Spearing/ Adam Kirby) last time, and can reverse the placings on 3 lbs better terms, but possibly the improving Sendreni (Michael Wigham/ Chris Catlin), who has won 2 of his last 3 races, can make a winning debut at this track.
