German runners at Deauville

There are a number of racedays in December on the fibregrass track at Deauville and today sees the first of them, with a mammoth card of 12 races (4 before lunch, and 8 in the afternoon) and with German-trained runners in 5 of them. In the second race this morning at 11.50, for 2yo fillies over a mile, there are 3 German runners: Wayra (Ralf Rohne/ William Mongil), Cordoba (Horst Steinmetz/ Davy Bonilla) and La Big (Mario Hofer/ Alexis Badel). In view of the excellent stable form, Hofer´s filly possibly has the best chance, but this is a tough race with 16 runners, including English-trained Seradim (Paul Cole/ Stephane Pasquier). Best race of the day is the1500 metres listed race at 15.05, in which Fareion (Sascha Smrczek/ William Mongil) and Jive (Steinmetz/ Thierry Jarnet) race a stiff task. Steinmetz also saddles In My Heart (Andreas Suborics)in the 1900 metres conditions race for 3yo´s at 15.35, where the huge field of 18 also includes another Cole/ Pasquier candidate i n Traphalgar. Half an hour later Matchpoiunt (Norbert Sauer/ Henk Grewe) runs in a 1300 metre handicap, while in the fina race at 17.00 over 2400 metres for amateur riders, there are two more German runners, Monolithos (Rainer Ording/ Marc Lerner) and Lennon (Ralf Rohne/ Alexandre Lemarie). The German runners will do well to win much today, with big fields and strong opposition in almost all races.
