Christian von der Recke at Kempton

Today´s Kempton card is clearly weaker than yesterday but still offers some fascinating racing ,and from the German point of view, the main interest will be in the performance of three runners trained at Weilerswist by Christian von der Recke. Der Spieler (Andrew Tinkler) makes his hurdling debut in the 3yo hurdle at 14.05 CET but faces some strong opposiiton, notably the unbeaten Starluck (A. Fleming/ Timmy Murphy), an impressive winner last time out. Dave Crosse has been booked for Peredur, who runs in the Grade Two novice chase at 14.40; with only 6 runners, he could run into the money, but on form the first two places look booked for Oumeyade (Paul Nicholls/ Tony McCoy) and Deep Purple (Evan and Christian Williams). Easily the best of the von der Recke runners is Fiepe´s Shuffle who contests the Grade Two Desert Orchid Chase over 2 miles at 16.15. Fiepes Shuffle fell at the first on his latest trip to England, and is partnered again by Jamie Moore, who will be hoping to a void such a mishap today. With another front-runner in the field, Ashley Brook (Kevin Bishop/ Timmy Murohy), he is also unlikely to get an uncontested lead, but he could still go well, although the likely strong pace should play into the hands of another German-bred Twist Magic (Nicholls/ McCoy), who looked like giving the top-class Master Minded a race last time before falling two out. Petit Robin (Nicky Henderson/ Barry Geraghty) is another possible in a race that should be fast and furious.
