Ayr, Plumpton and Wolverhampton

Only average fare today at the N.H. meetings at Ayr and Plumpton and the all-weather flat racing at Wolverhampton, but at least racing goes ahead after the disastrous loss of Cheltenham´s big Saturday meeting; it looks as if the Boylesports Hurdle, the main event here, could be saved and will possibly be run this Saturday at Ascot. The going at both Ayr and Plumpton is however very heavy and stamina will be the most necessary quality this afternoon, especially in the 3 miles 1 furlong chase at 14.25 CET at Ayr. Top-weight King Barry (Paula Robson/ Tmmy Murphy) is the best horse in the field and looks the likeliest winner, although Ryminster (John Wade/ Brian Hughes) could be a big danger. German-bred Quicuyo made a good chasing debut recently and can now take the beginners chase at 13.50, although we are not always happy about the progeny if Acatenango on this ground. At Plumpton, Freeze Up (David Pipe/ Tom Scudore), an easy winner at Fontwell 6 days ago, can follow up in the 3 1/4 miöes handicap chase at 15.35. Jigsaw Dancer (Andrew Turnell/ Mark Grant) was a useful hurdler and looks a nice prospect over fences; he can win the novice chase at 15.35, a race that has frequently gone to an above-average performer. German-bred Wiesenfürst (Gary and Jamie Moore) is no star, but he can score off bottom weight in the 2 miles handicap hurdle at 16.40. AtWolverhampton, Hucking Heat (Reg Hollinshead/ David kenny) who has won 3 of his last 4 races, including this CD, looks a good thing to defy top weight in the apprentice handicap over 10 furlongs at 15.15, now that likely rival Plush is a non-runner. The maiden race at 17.20 comes possibly a fortnight or so too early for Irish challenger January (Ted Walsh/ Pat Cosgrave) but he can still beat this modest oppositiuon.
