final day of flat season

today is officially the final day of the British flat season, although of course all-weather racing will continue throughout the winter. But as far as statistics are concerned the final tables will be decided today - Ryan Moore is already champion jockey by a mile, and the only question to be resolved is the apprentice championship between David Probert and William Buick, both on 50 winners. Probert has a chance today, with 2 rides while Buick is suspended, but a dead-heat would probably satisfy everybody, especially Andrew Balding, to whose stable they are both attached. Traditionally Doncaster closes the season with today´s November Handicap (originally run at the long defunct Manchester) and also begins next season at the end of March with the Lincoln Handicap (originally run of course at the long defunct Lincoln)
