Newmarket today

tomorrow is Champions day at Newmarket, but today´s card is also strong, featuring a Group Three race over the unusual distance of 9 furlongs at 16.10 CET. This could be ideal for Luca Cumani´s Bankable (Dane O´Neill), who has now been runner-up four times running in similar events, costing his supporters a packet each time. Godolphin´s pair Kirklees (Frankie Dettori) and Third Set (Ted Durcan) look dangerous, as does Mike de Kock´s Lucky Find (Kevin Shea). There are also two listed races for fillies and mares, over 10 furlongs at 16.45 and over 6 furlongs at 17.20. The former event should go to James Fanshawe´s Spacious (Robert Winston), who is best on ratings havoing finished second in the 1,000 Guineas here, but it is her first try at the distance and Fragrancy, representing the in-form team of Michael Jarvis and Philip Robinson, could be the safer bet. Laddoes Poker Two (Jeremy Noseda/Tom Queally) and Red Dune (Jarvis/ Robinson) look the two likeliest winners of the sprin t. The conditions race for 2yo´s over a mile at 15.35 also looks very hot, but Henry Cecil´s On Our Way (Tom Queally) was third in the Group Two Royal Lodge last time out and should win if running up to that form.
