Kempton, Leicester and Lingfield

The three British flat meetings today, on the all-weather at Kempton and Lingfield and on turf at Leicester, are all mainly moderate, but Leicester does stage two class 3 races. Only 5 line up for the conditions race over 1 1/2 miles at 15.30 CET, which on ratings should go to Young Mick (George Margarson/ Dane O´Neill), but he has not won for ages and seems to run better at Ascot than anywhere else, so possibly Classic Punch (David Elsworth/ Richard Quinn), whose latest form has been boosted, can concede the weight. Mon Michel (Gary Moore/ George Baker) has not run on the flat for over 2 years, but he was group-placed then and is also a useful hurdler, so should not be overlooked. The mile handicap at 16.30 looks very tricky, but Luca Cumani´s Axiom (O´Neill) must have a chance; after Saturday´s fantastic successes at Santa Anita, Princess Haya´s Charm School (John Gosden/ Richard Mullen) obviuously has to be respected as well. Cumani can also be on the scoreboard at Lingfie ld, where Jamie Spencer (!) rides his Falcativ in the 1 1/2 mile handicap at 16.20. The opposition includes two German-breds, top-weight Polish Power (Stan Moore/ Edward Creighton), who has won 6 times here but seems to be out of form, and the Schlenderhan-bred Agapanthus (Andrew Stringer/ Tom Queally), who finished last in the German Derby and last again on his British debut for Barney Curley, who travelled to Baden-Baden yesterday to complain about the horse´s rating, so he is probably best watched for now. At Kempton, Ghanaati (Barry and Richard Hills) will be a hot favourite for the 2yo maiden at 16.10, while in the mile handicap at 17.40 there is another clash between Prince of Thebes (Mike Attwater/ Paul Doe) and Daniel Thomas (Mrs. King/ Jim Crowley), who is now a pound better off for a head defeat at Lingfield 12 days ago.
