Flat racing at Navan, Nottingham and Kempton (evening)

After some heavy rain yesterday, the going is likely to be testing at both Nottingham and in Ireland at Navan. The most interesting event at the Irish track is the 10 furlongs conditions race at 17.15 CET, in which Tony Martin´s smart handicapper Leg Spinner (Robbie Colgan), having his first run of the flat since winning the Cesarewitch a year ago, will find the going tough over a distance far short of his best. Aidan O´Brien´s New Zealand (Sean Levey) has a major chance here, but Via Galileo (Jim Bolger/ Kevin Manning), Daasij (Dermot Weld/ Pat Smullen) and Blues in Cee (John Oxx/ Mick Kinane) could all be dangerous. However New Zeaand fares, the trainer and his talented apprentice should pick up the 3yo maiden at 18.15 with Washington Irving, whose fifth place in the Derby makes him almost unbeatable in this company. At Nottingham, 4 of the 8 races are restricted to 2yo´s and Fitz Flyer (David Brown/ Paul Mulrennan) in the 5 furlongs maiden at 14.40 and Alanbrooke (Mark Joh nston/ Royston Ffrench) in the mile maiden at 15.40 both appear to hold winning chances. Red Jade (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune), in the 10 furlongs maiden for older horses at 17.10, should make up for his mishap last week, when a close third here over a mile, where the jockey dropped his hands in the closing stages, which cost him second place and a lengthy suspension. At Kempton´s evening meeting on the all-weather, the 7 furlongs handicap at 21.50 looks wode open, with all 13 runners holding a chance, from top-weight Russki (David Simcock/ Richard Mullen) to bottom-weight Irony (Amdrew Balding/ David Probert); both Lindoro (Walter Swinburn/ Adam Kirby) and Fathsta (Silvester Kirk/ Liam Keniry) look overdue for a win, but they are both badly drawn.
