Listed race at Goodwood

there are some large fields at Goodwood today, but only 7 turn out for the main feature, a listed race over 10 furlongs at 17.20 CET, two of them trained by Henry Cecil: Many Volumes (Ted Durcan) and Tranquil Tiger (Tom Queally). Both are consistent performers at this level, though jockey bookings sugest that the former is the stable´s main hope. Godolphin´s Meydan City (Frankie Dettori) is the only 3yo in the field, and is probably well up to this standard (he certainly cost enough - $ 11.7 million!) but the stable continues to be out of form. The interesting one here is Luca Cumani´s Purple Moon (Jamie Spencer - his first ride for thre stable in some time), who won the Ebor last year but has not been out since running in the Melbourne Cup last November. After this long break, and over a trip short of his best, he is probably best watched today. Cecil and Queally can also go close in the 11 furlongs handicap for 3yo´s at 17.55 with Tomintoul Flyer, just run out of it over a furlong further last week at Beverley. There are also large fields at Redcar, with 20 runners in the claiming race over the straight mile at 16.25. Top-weight Royal Dignitary (David and Adrian Nicholls), who has won 4 of his last 5 races, is clearly the one to beat here, but William Haggas´ Very Wise (Joe Fanning) could be interesting dropping in grade here, after making little show in some hot handicaps recently.
