Beverley and Folkestone

Once again some maonly low level flat racing today at Beverley, where the going is good to soft, and Folkkestone (good to firm). The most interesting rae f thre afternoon is the 5 furlongs conditions race at 15.30 CET at Beverley. The two highest-rated runners here are Hoh Mike (Michael Bell/ Jamie Spencer) and Oldjoesaid (Henry Candy/ Dane O´Nerill). Hoh Mike has plenty of ability, but does not always impress with his attitude; he has not won for 15 months, but ran well in a sumilar event last time oiut over 6 furlongs and this trip suits him much better. Oldjoesaid is a top sprint handicapper and his fourth place in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster (Fullanby and Strike up the Band well held on that form) reads well in this context, However the lightly-weighted Mazila (David Nicholls/ Silvestre de Sousa) looks a big danger. The 7 1/2 furlongs handicap here at 16.30 looks very open with 14 runners. Oshiwonka (David and Adrian Nicholls) was a narrow winner of a similar race this CD a month ago, with Handsome Falcon (Richard Fahey/ Freddie Tylicki) - a winner since- and Jonny Lesters Hair (Tim Easterby/ David Allan) close up in second and third, and there should be little between them again, Inconsistent front-runner Nuit Sombre (Geoff Harker/ Silvestre de Sousa) is an interesting outsider, having won this race last year. At Folkestone, Anne of Kiev (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune) looks the best thing of the day in the maiden race at 16.20; she made an excellent belate seasonal debut a month ago after a long layoff and appears to have little to beat now. There are only 5 runners in the class 3 handicap over 1 1/2 miles at 17.50, with Howdigo (John Best/ Ryan Noore) and Timocracy (Mark Johnston/ William Buick), both runners-up last week in bettercompany, holding the strongest credentials. The 10 furlongs handicap at 17.20 is more tricky, although Luca Cumani´s Celt (Ryan Moore), an easy CD winner last time iut, is the obvious faviurite. The interest ing one here is Michael Jarvis´ Sortita (Martin Dwyer), who flopped on the all-weather last time, but had earlier won a maiden race in great style. She is an own-sister to German classic winners Samum, Schiaparelli and Salve Regina, but the fast going today may not be in her favour.
