Glorious Goodwood- final day

Today is the fifth and final day of Glorious Goodwood, with yet another extremey high class card featuring the Group One Nassau Stakes at 16.15 CET and the big betting race of the week, the Stewards Cup at 16.50. The Nassau Stakes, for fillies and mares over 10 furlongs, looks yet another British Group One likely to be won by an Irish challenger, but while Aidan O´Brien, going for his 17th Group One of the season, saddles Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Halfway to Heaven (Johnny Murtagh), Jim Bolger´s Lush Lashes (Kevin Manning) looks the more credible candidate.

She won in great style at Royal Ascot over a mile, but this distance seems ideal, even though she found a mile and a half too far in the Oaks. Best of the Brits are probably Henry Cecil´s Passage of Time (Ted Durcan), back to formlas time, and Sir Michael Stoute´s Heaven Sent (Ryan Moore). The Stewards Cup over 6 furlongs at 16.50 has 28 runners and looks as usual fiendlishly difficult. Borderlescott (Robin Bastiman/ Pat Cosgrave) won this in 2006 ad was just tuched off last year; he is in great frm, but one to wonder if the number one draw is really an advantage - most of this week´s winners have been coming up the far rail. Class act is arguably Prime Defender (Barry and Michael Hills), who was only beaten about 2 lengths when seventh in the July Cup. Knot in Wood (Richard Fahey/ Jamie Moriarty) finished third here last year and won a good race recently in Hamilton, while Mac Gille Eoin (Jams Gallagher/ Jim Crowley) loves these downhill tracks and has already won twice this CD.

Those looking for a credible outsider could consider bottom-weight Barney McGrew (Michael Dods/ Ted Durcan) and 10yo Patavellian (Roger Charlton/ Steve Drowne), who won this race back in 2003. The listed mile race for 3yo´s at 15.40 has attracted a very strong field for this grade, with many of the 9 races having contested group one races. Stubbs Art (David Elsworth/ Seb Samders) was third inboth the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas and finisged just in front of Alexandros (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori), when both were well behind Henrythenavigator. River Proud (Paul Cole/ Richard Hughes) ran a great race in the French Guineas after giving trouble at the start, losing ground and finishing strongly for third. Perfect Stride (Sir Michael Stoute/ Ryan Moore) is moving up in grade after a very easy handicap win at Ascot a week ago, but is by no means impossible.

1.Race: Bencoolen - Deep Winter - Addikt
2.Race: Perfect Stride - River Proud - Stubbs Art
