3 Group Races at Goodwood

Goodwood has a strong card today with 3 group races, including the Great Voltigeur Stakes which has been transferred from York. This traditional St.Leger trial for 3yo´s over 1 1/2 miles kicks off the programme at 15.10 and despite having only 5 runners looks a fascinating heat. Patkai (Sir Michael Stoute/ Robert Winston), an impressive winner of the Queen´s Vase last time, is favourite for the St.Leger so in theory should take this, but faces strong opposition from Andrew Balding´s Top Knot (Martin Dwyer), third in the German Derby when last seen, and Godolphin´s $ 11.7 million yearling purchase Meydan City (Frankie Dettori), who has two minor races very easily and is moving up in grade. main race on the card is the Celebration Mile at 16.15, which also has only 5 runners and should be a shoo-in for the only 3yo in the field Raven´s Pass (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune), who ran such an excellent race in the Sussex Stakes over this CD. Bankable (Luca Cumani/ Dane O´Neill) and Th ird Set (Saeed bin Suroor/ Dettori) should take the places. The Prestige Stakes for 2yo fillies over 7 furlongs at 16.45 has 10 runners, 9 of them winners, including the unbeaten Fantasia (Cumani/ O´Neill) and Faraway Flower (Barry and Michael Hills), but Pachatrack (Gerald Butler/ Dettori), an easy CD maiden winner, can step up in class to take this. The listed race over 1 3/4 miles at 15.45 should concern only the course specialists Tungsten Strike /Amanda Perrett/ Darryll Holland) and Sanbuch (Cumani/ O´Neill).
