Ayr and Newton Abbot

N.H. racing today at Newton Abbot in the extreme south-west, while the only flataction this afternoon comes fromAyr on the Scottish west coast. It could be significant that John Gosden sends the proniding Capucci (Robert Havlin) on the long hourney from Newmarket, and this well-bred colt, who cost 220,000 guineas as a yearlinf, can defY to-weight in the 3yo mile handicap at 17.10. The 6 furlongs fillies handicap half an hour earlier looks mich more open. Dorn Dancer (Derek Barker/ Fergal Lynch) has been very consistent this year and always goes well here, whie Rothesay Dancer (Jim Goldie/ Daniel Tudhope) has been runner-up three times running but is probaby better at the minimum trip. Gap Princess (Richard Fahey/ Jamie Moriarty), first or second on her last 4 starts, is the obvious danger. At Newton Abbot, the beginners chase at 15.50 could be informative. On hurdles form this should mainly concern Nanga Parbat (Paul Nicholls/ Sam Thomas) - so far unconvincing over fences-, Osprey View (Nigel Twiston-Davies/ Paddy Brennan), runner-up his only chase start, and Tagula Blue (Ian Williams/ David Dennis), who fell early on his chasing debut. Perhaps Nanga Parbat can be gien another cance, and his trainer, who has an excellent summer strike rate, can also take the 3 1/4 mile handicap chase at 16.50 with top-weight Kaldouas (Tony McCoy), despite a massive 25 lbs concession to Hermano Cordobes (Philip Hobbs/ Richard Johnson). Consistent hunter-chaser Take the Stand, in younger days much better than these, is also in with a chance.
