3yo fillies at Newbury

Three flat meetings this afternoon, with the best card at Newbury, featuring a listed race over 10 furlongs for 3yo fillies at 16.50 CET. This looks quite an open race, with Ed Vaughan´s unfortunately-named Kotsi the probable favourite with Frankie Dettori aboard. Last time out she finished runner-up to Clowance (subsequentlx fourth in the Oaks) over this CD 4 weeks ago. Annie Skates (Jane Chapple-Hyam/ Kerrin McEvoy) was also runner-up last time to an Oaks entry, Michita, but that one was a disappointment at Epsom. Melodramatic (Roger Charlton/ Steve Drowne) is one of several moving up in grade after an easy maiden win and should not be underestimated. It could well be that the 3yo fillies running in the two divisions of the maiden race over the same trip will in the long term prove superior to those in the listed race. Several very well-bred fillies are engaged, most of them running in the colours of various members of the Maktoum family. In the first division at 14.40, Godolphin´s Siyabona (Saeed bin Suroor/ Frankie Dettori) can beat Sheikh Hamdan´s Alzaroof (Ed Dunlop/ Richard Hills) and Princess Haya´s Caprivi (John Gosden/ Jimmy Fortune), while Frankie Dettori can double up an hour later in the second division with Godolphin´s Siyasa; Hamdan´s Ghaidaa (Michael Jarvis/ Richard Hills) - whose dam and half-sister both won the Oaks- heads the opposition.
