Great Leighs open to public

Britain´s newest racetrack, Great Leighs in Essex east of London, opens for the first time to the public today. They have held several evening meetings already, but they were all restricted to special guests. Now for ther first time the paying public is allowed in, and also they race for the first time in the afternoon. After an early morning inspection to make sure all the safety regulations were observed, racing has been given the green light and there are 3 class 3 races on the card. Henry Cecil´s Many Volumes(Ted Durcan), only beaten half a length by Red Rocks last time, seems to have the 10 furlongs race at 16.35 CET at his mercy, but the handicaps at 17.10 and 17.45 looks much more open. In the former event, over 6 furlongs, hat-trick chasing Mango Music (Mick Quinn/ Chris Catlin), Obe Gold (David and Adrian Nicholls) and ex-Irish Royal Island (Mick Quinlan/ Vince Slattery) are three fr the short list, while the fillies´ handicap over 10 furlongs looks very tricky. Top-weight Folly Lodge (Geoff Wragg/ Steve Drowne) has been racing in better company and may be able to hold off Tom Dascombe´s two runners, Naughty Thoughts (Ross Atkinson), who has won 3 races already this year, and bottom-weight Zaskar (Adrian McCarthy)
