All-weather action at Lingfield and Southwell

A typical Monday, with low-level sport at all 5 tracks today, including the two all-weather meetings at Lingfield this afternoon and Southwell this evening. Most interesting event at the former track is the mile race for 3yo maidens at 15.50 CET; on recent form the obvious candidates are Henry Cecil´s Reine de Violette (Tom Queally), fourth at Nottingham a fortnight ago, and William Haggas´ Maghya (Ryan Moore), runner-up here over 7 furlongs at the beginning of the month, but there are some debutants entered who could well prove dangerous, notably Roger Charlton´s well-bred Caro George (Steve Drowne), who cost 170,000 guineas a yearling, and Upstart (Jimmy Quinn), possibly Henry Cecil s second string. At Southwell, German-bred Limonia (Mike Murphy/ Fergal Lynch), who likes this track and has finished runner-up here three times already this year, can finally get his head in frot in thr 6 furlongs handicap at 18.55. The best race here is the class 4 5 furlongs handicap at 19.35; only 6 runners, but all have form, and many of them are CD specialists, notably Diminuto (Mark Usher/ Amy Baker), who has an excellent record here. So does Ann Stokell´s Pawan, who has top-weight and is coming off a near 4 months break. However Steel City Boy (Declan Carroll), who won his only race at this venue, looks best on current form, after running well at Ripon against stronger opposition on Saturday.
